A research partner supporting the scientific validation, evidence development, and advancement of Balance Mat technology.
In July 2021, Balance Mat Pty Ltd and the University of Canberra established a Collaborative Research Agreement to undertake a major research program focused on the development, evaluation, and validation of Balance Mat technology.
Through this collaboration, researchers from the University of Canberra have contributed to advancing the scientific understanding of balance measurement and postural sway assessment through a series of research activities and publications.
The partnership has produced multiple scientific outputs between 2022 and 2025, strengthening the evidence base behind Balance Mat and supporting its development as an objective, portable balance assessment technology.
A significant milestone in the collaboration was the publication of a peer-reviewed study evaluating the technical and clinical performance of Balance Mat in older adults, comparing postural sway measurements against established balance assessment methods.
The research demonstrated the capability of Balance Mat to objectively quantify postural sway using a portable optical fibre-based system, supporting its potential application as an accessible balance assessment solution for healthcare and research environments.
